America the Free

While domestic issues dominate our lives with current events at home it is important to be aware of what confronts us globally.  We are only one nation in this vast neighborhood of nations.  As a developed industrialized nation who controls the world’s economy, we enjoy many luxuries. We also enjoy dominance because we have the strongest military system in the world.  Our strategic presence in the world along with our alliances and agreements with economic partners place us all over the world to protect our interests.  As time has evolved since World War II, we now face competition from other developed nations in their expansion efforts to protect their interests.  Unfortunately, their system of government along with their ideology make them adversarial to our way of life.  As a matter of fact, many want to destroy our way of life because we live under a free-thinking society. Some call it a democracy governed under a constitutional republic. Others take it all for granted.  Most of our foes control their populace under authoritarian and oppressive regimes. Their control of all facets of society and the power they wield over the system is counter to the freedoms we enjoy.  Just as we promote freedom to the people, they cannot without losing control of their social order.  Hence, we are vigilant and prepared to defend our way of life.

Why am I writing about this?  I want my readers to know for us to succeed in this great American experience we must unify for a common cause as a nation.  The freedoms we enjoy are not free and are not promised forever.  We have had to fight to defend our way of life.  Nothing is guaranteed.  But to remain free we need to be aware of enemies and foes, both foreign and domestic.

Although America was created by an Anglo-Saxon western cultured civilization, there have been generations of other races, creeds, and colors who now have adapted to and only know American life and values. These Americans have shed their blood as well to defend our way of life. To think integration is not possible or has not occurred is foolish and continues to create mistrust and division.  But who am I to force this change of thought.  I just want you to think about it for a second.  Because sooner or later there will be a time where we may have to depend on all Americans to defend our way of life.  Why not now?

Since the existence of our country, we have had first generation newcomers looking for a better life.  I believe they are called immigrants. As an American whose roots have always existed even before America was established, I can’t explain why the world wants to come to America.  Could it be for freedom, opportunity, capitalism, the American dollar, education, previous generations, or just wanting a better way of life?  Try all of it!  Should they be allowed to stay or be sent back to their native country?

That’s for another blog…..stay tuned!
